Australian Ambassador launches Indigenous art exhibition in São Tomé

Ambassador Anne Plunkett launched the first art exhibition by Torres Strait Islands artists in a Portuguese-speaking African country in São Tomé e Príncipe on 31 July 2013. The collection is made up of 16 artworks - linocuts and etchings - by Alick Tipoti, Solomon Booth and Victor Motlop and it had never been exhibited outside Portugal since it started being acquired by the Embassy, in 2009.

The launch, which took place at Cacau, received excellent coverage by the local media and was attended by representatives of the São Tomean authorities and the diplomatic corps, among other guests. The event was included in the 2013 NAIDOC week celebrations http://www.naidoc.org.au/
